Mumbai’s Olympia Coffee House Licence Suspended Over Major Hygiene Violations

Mumbai’s Olympia Coffee House in Colaba has had its food licence suspended after FDA inspectors found food on the floor, meat blood in fridges, unclean water and untrained staff.

Mumbai’s 108-year-old Olympia Coffee House in Colaba has had its food licence suspended after Maharashtra FDA inspectors found severe hygiene violations during an inspection on September 16.

The inspection uncovered food lying on the floor, meat blood inside refrigerators, unclean water and untrained staff at the iconic establishment. Following the findings, the Maharashtra FDA suspended the food licence, preventing the restaurant from reopening until the identified violations are addressed and it passes a re-inspection.

The action comes at a time when the 108-year-old Colaba landmark had recently attracted international attention after Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon and Tom Holland visited the establishment for chai and bun maska.

Olympia Coffee House is now required to rectify the hygiene issues identified by the inspectors and undergo re-inspection before it can reopen.
